Rulebook:
Article 502.4.3: Anyone who
coaches athletes at a USA Swimming practice or competition must
be a coach member of USA Swimming and must have satisfactorily
completed safety training and background screening required by
USA Swimming. |
Concerns:
Richard Quick, long time USA
Swimming coach, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009. The
swimming community has been a tremendous support to Richard and
his family during his illness. Please continue to hold Richard's
family in your thoughts. |
Breaststroke Interpretation:
Coaches, PLEASE read new
Breaststroke Interpretation.
Swimsuit Legislation:
One of USA Swimming’s purposes is to promote swimming
as a sport and fitness activity for swimmers of all ages and as a
lifelong activity. Swimming has long been readily available at a
relatively low entry cost, which promotes and encourages participation
at any age. The rule to limit certain swimsuits for 12 and under
athletes is important to USA Swimming’s objective of continuing to
make swimming a sport and fitness activity of relatively low entry
cost for the youngest of its competitors.
The House of Delegates meeting at the annual convention
in Atlanta, GA voted on certain rule changes. One that directly
affects parents and officials concerns a limitation of certain types
of swimsuits by 12 and unders at Age Group meets.
102.9.1A: Swimsuits worn for all 12 & under age group defined
competition shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor
past the knee.
Effective May 15, 2009 (11/16/08)

Parents Information
When you are
attending a meet without your coach, you should understand MW policy.
-
Only USA Swimming registered
coaches are to appear on deck in a coaching capacity or sign in on the
Coach's Sign-In Sheet.
-
Upon arriving at the
swim meet the athlete or the adult accompanying the athlete must report
to the meet referee. The referee is to be informed that the athlete is
entered in the meet and is without benefit of a coach. The referee will
then see that the athlete is assigned a coach for the meet. The
accompanying adult should leave the deck immediately.
